How Does A Jump Drive Work?
A USB flash drive or a jump drive is used in the place of CDs and DVDs to carry data. The computer has a USB port and when such a drive is plugged the operating system o the computer will recognize it as an external drive. It does not need its own power supply so in this respect it may differ from other external drives. The jump drives come in many sizes and many companies make them.
A jump drive can be used on the computer having a USB port. It should be plugged into one. The connection to the computing system is known by a popup message shown at the right hand corner at the bottom.
The device is mainly used to transfer data from the computer to any other device or from any other device to the computer. If you want to transfer something to it, first go to the start menu and click computer there. You can see F: or G: drive and this is the location of the new drive added. When you double click on it, it can be opened. Now the files that are ready for transfer should be dragged and dropped into this drive. You can also copy the files and paste them on the folder of the drive. It will take some time to completely copy them. When done, you can be sure that the transfer is complete on it.
The amount of data or the number of files will depend on its memory calculated in gigabytes and they are usually 4 or 8 GB drives that are common in use. The drive should be removed from the computer and this is done using a simple process. Again at the bottom right hand corner the icon representing the drive is seen. You need to hit upon it. A message saying it is safe to remove the drive will appear. Just click once on it. This will enable it to be disconnected from the power. So just take it away from the USB port.
The data you wanted is transferred to it and this can be connected it to the device or another computer to which the data transfer should take place. Again follow the same steps in connecting and disconnecting it. The difference is you need to copy the data from the device after opening it on the computer where it is connected and dragged or copied to it. This is the way your jump drive works.
