Intel X25M 120 GB Solid State Drive with Internal SATA and Power Cables MLC Flash Technology
Since costs have come back down on these 2nd gen drives, they’re pretty equivalent to the competition in terms of performance and price/GB. despite the fact that the SandForce drives have faster writes, I selected the Intel since I browse plenty of quality management problems with OCZ drives. My X25-M worked fine out of the box, and hasn’t had any issues to this point (1 month+).
This kit is sweet for the extras it comes with. Some versions of the X25-M come back OEM-style, where you just get the drive. This one will embrace the additional three.5″ mounting bracket.
I bought this drive to use because the OS + Games drive for my desktop. One attention-grabbing factor I observed since shopping for this drive… i do not extremely notice huge advantages from it. aren’t getting me wrong, it positively makes my laptop boot up five hundredth faster, and programs load faster in addition. It’s simply that a 15s boot time does not feel THAT a lot of completely different than a 25s one. Also, i believe Windows seven already will a decent job of compensating for slow HDDs with all of its caching tricks.
One space that I even have noticed an improvement is in my World of Warcraft load times. Before, if I logged into a busy town, everybody was invisible for a decent 15-20s whereas the textures end loading. With the SSD, not solely are the load screens shorter, however I see different players quickly.
Overall i am pleased with the acquisition, though if I had to try and do it once more, i would in all probability look forward to the costs to return down with the third generation drives.
FYI, if you download the Intel SSD Toolbox, you may have issues performing a Secure Erase, betting on your BIOS. Some motherboards have strict lockdowns on HDs to stop tampering with HD passwords. Even once making an attempt each trick I may realize on-line, i could not get it to erase properly. though it’s in all probability a moot purpose, with TRIM support and garbage assortment.
